season (March 1st to September 30th) • Fishing
for Atlantic salmon and Sea trout is also available on request. We operate
closely together with a network of other professional guides in counties Sligo
and Mayo. These are specialists in Salmon and Sea-trout fishing and we will be
happy to arrange guided angling for these magnificent species as part of a
package deal or on a daily basis. Licences and Permits: •
A
license or permit is not required for pike or coarse angling on most waters. •
For trout fishing on Lough Key, Boyle & District angling Club
encourages anglers to purchase a once of annual club membership: € 20 • For all Salmon and Sea-trout fishing a State license is required
as well as a permit on most rivers and lakes. Prices vary depending on region
and timescale.

The Boyle River:
which runs from
Lough Gara (near Ballaghaderreen) through Boyle town and flows into Lough Key,
has a great diversity of angling opportunities. Very good pike angling, with
some double figure fish. Some parts of the river provide great fly fishing for
brown trout, average weight: ½ lbs. with some bigger fish being taken quite
often, Waders essential! The head of coarse fish is excellent in the lower parts
of the river, with mixed bags to 80lbs. Bream, roach, hybrids, perch and pike:
good access.
Lough Key: The former Irish pike record of over 39lbs. was
caught here in 1993. It holds good stocks of pike and wild brown trout, also
bream, roach and hybrids. Boyle & District Angling Club holds an annual Pike
Angling Festival at Easter with prizes to the total of over € 6,000. Excellent
trout fishing during the may fly period.
Lough Arrow: A renowned limestone
lake, good stocks of Brown Trout are to be found here in addition to other
species. The lake is a mecca for fly fishermen.
Lough Gara: Another good pike
water, also good coarse angling. Lough Bo, Lough Nasool: These are two
smaller lakes, which are stocked with brown and rainbow trout. Average weight -
1lbs. Permit required: € 15 per day
The River Shannon with its vast inlets
and backwaters lies to the east of the region. There are well-developed sections
where bags of bream and roach in excess of 100lbs are common.
The River Lung
in Ballaghaderreen provides good pike fishing and has a large stock of roach and
large shoals of bream. Fishing facilities have been erected on most of the lakes
and natural swims are kept clear to facilitate the angler.
Ballaghaderreen -
The Lung Valley: 20 minutes from Knock Airport, the Lung Valley is an angler's
paradise with its rivers and lakes. Lough Gara, Lough Errit, Lough Urlar,
Cloonaholly, Cloonaught. It is one of the best coarse fishing regions in Ireland
for bream, roach, rudd, hybrids, perch, tench, trout, eel and pike in excess of
30lbs. Park with easy access, also disabled stand for physically impaired
anglers.

The River Suck: The Suck rises on
the Mayo/Roscommon border and passing from Lake O’Flynn it flows in
southeasterly direction before it joins the Shannon. Excellent stocks of pike
and coarse fish. Disable stands on some parts. Permit required: € 10 per day,
€18 for 21 days
Lough O’Flynn: This 300 acre stocked limestone lake, which is
managed by the Shannon Regional Fishery Board, is suitable for both shore and
boat fishing and is highly renowned for its brown trout fishing. Average weight
1 lbs. Permit required: € 10 per day, € 18 for 21 days
